Midshipman pleads guilty to drug charges

A midshipman pleaded guilty this week to drug charges stemming from a Navy investigat­ion into drug use at the Naval Academy. Zachary Williams pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of drugs with intent to distribute, using drugs, bringing drugs to the Naval Academy and distributi­ng t hose substances t o f ellow midshipmen. Williams, a midshipman second class, also pleaded guilty to violating the Uniform Code of Military Justice and failure to obey a general regulation. The Navy will dismiss Williams, and he will serve 13 months in confinemen­t. Williams’ charges resulted from a Naval Criminal Investigat­ive Service investigat­ion that began about a year ago after other midshipmen reported Williams for selling and using drugs.
