What is closed today in honor of President Bush

After President Donald J. Trump announced a national day of mourning Wednesday for former President George H.W. Bush, Gov. Larry Hogan followed suit and said Maryland state government agencies and offices will be closed to honor of Bush’s “lifetime of service and unwavering dedication to our country.”

Trump’s announcement means most federal employees will have the day off work.

Post offices will be closed and mail delivery postponed until Thursday.

Federal agencies like the Social Security Administration and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in Baltimore will be closed. National parks like the Fort McHenry National Monument will have limited service.

All courts in Maryland, including district, circuit and appeals courts, will join the federal courts in being closed, announced Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera of the Maryland Court of Appeals.

The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed, as will the bond markets.

Baltimore city government offices will remain open, as will most Baltimore County government offices. The Baltimore County Department of Social Services will be closed, county spokeswoman Ellen Kobler said.

Bush died Friday at age 94. His memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday at the National Cathedral in Washington.
