Man killed after being hit by car in Arundel is identified
Anne Arundel County police have identified the man who died Saturday after being struck by a car in Riviera Beach. Police said Michael Ireland, 43, of Annapolis died after he was struck by a vehicle while walking on Fort Smallwood Road in the early morning hours Saturday. Firefighters found Ireland after he had been struck by a two-door 2007 Volkswagen sedan driven by Devon Stoddard Menza, 18, of Pasadena. Ireland was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe he was walking into oncoming traffic on Fort Smallwood Road. Nochargeshavebeenfiled. “Thepreliminary cause of the crash is the pedestrian failing to yield to roadway traffic and walk on the available shoulder,” a police spokesman said.
