Lipscomb men roll past Navy, 107-81

Rob Marberry tied his season high with 26 points, freshman Ahsan Asadullah hit all 10 of his shots for 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Lipscomb beat Navy, 107-81, in men’s basketball Sunday in Nashville, Tenn.

Nathan Moran made four 3-pointers and scored14 points and Kenny Cooper had 10 points and five assists for the Bisons (7-2), who shot 64 percent, were10 of 21from beyond the arc and made 21 of 26 free-throw attempts in reaching the century mark for the first time this season.

The Bisons outscored Navy 54-22 in the paint and got 31 points off 15 turnovers.

John Carter Jr. scored 17 points, George Kiernan had 15, Cam Davis added 13 and Josiah Strong chipped in 11 for the Midshipmen (3-6), who shot 44 percent and made 28 of 29 free-throw attempts.

The Bisons went ahead by double figures for good after a 22-5 run put them ahead 81-58 with nine minutes remaining. Asadullah scored 10 points in the run. The lead reached 28 points late. Lipscomb led 52-45 at halftime.

TENNESSEE STATE 64, COPPIN STATE 55: Donte Fitzpatric­k-Dorsey and Emmanuel Egbuta combined for 32 points and the visiting Tigers beat the Eagles.

Fitzpatric­k-Dorsey had 18 points on 9-of-17 shooting, while Egbuta sank five of 10 shots and scored 14 for Tennessee State (3-5).

Lamar Morgan topped the winless Eagles (0-11) with 12 points, but he made just three of 10 from 3-point range. Nigel Marshall added 11 points and seven rebounds. Coppin State has lost 17 straight games dating to last season.

The Eagles shot just 33 percent from the field, made only 1-for-10 from 3-point range in the first half and trailed 33-27 at halftime.

Morgan’s 3-pointer at the 17:11 mark gave Coppin State its only lead of the second half, 36-35. Tennessee State scored just two points in the first 5:16 of the second half, but Tripp Davis had a layup off a steal and Damarri Moore’s dunk capped a 19-9 run and the Tigers never trailed again.

Women

HOFSTRA 45, UMBC 42: The visiting Pride used an 18-8 fourth-quarter run to pull away from the Retrievers.

Te’yJah Oliver scored a season-best 16 points and Janee’a Summers added 10 points and nine rebounds for UMBC.

UMBC (6-5) began the second half with a 4-0 spurt to retake the lead, 26-22. The Retrievers held the Pride (4-6) to 1-for-7 shooting over the final minutes of the third quarter, getting four points from Oliver to take a 34-27 lead.

Hofstra found its footing in the fourth, going on a 9-2 run to open the quarter to tie the game. Oliver responded with a 3-pointer before the Pride hit a 3 to pull in front. Hofstra then ripped off a 9-0 run to take a six-point lead before Tyler Moore hit a 3 to cut the deficit in half.

The Retrievers had a chance at the buzzer to force overtime, but Dominika Skrocka’s 3-pointer missed.

COLORADO 59, NAVY 43: Peanut Tuitele scored 15 points to help the host Buffaloes (8-1) beat the Mids (4-4).

Kolbi Green scored 10 points for Navy, which was held to 23.3 percent shooting from the field.
