Kentucky’s Green announces transfer

-

Sophomore guard Quade Green is leaving Kentucky.

Green notified coach John Calipari of his decision Wednesday and will have the ability to transfer to any school he wants without restrictions.

He thanked the school and coaching staff in a statement.

“I have loved my time at Kentucky and love Coach Cal and the staff,” Green said in a statement. “This was a difficult decision and one I didn’t take lightly. However, after talking with my family and the coaching staff, I just felt like it was best that I explore other opportunities for my athletic and academic future. I have enjoyed my time at Kentucky and I’ll never forget the Big Blue Nation for its love and its support.”

Calipari said in a statement that Green had his “full support.”

Green, a McDonald’s AllAmerican out of Philadelphia, was one of the 19thranked Wildcats’ better 3point shooters in a season characterized by inconsistent 3-point shooting. He was third on the team with 11 3-pointers and 42.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

Green began the 2017-18 season as Kentucky’s starting point guard before moving to shooting guard.

This season, Green averaged 8.0 points per game and had seen his minutes and production diminish in recent games. He played only 10 minutes against Seton Hall on Saturday and a career-low eight a week earlier against UNC Greensboro.

Miami loses Gak: Miami freshman forward Deng Gak will miss the rest of the season with a left knee injury, the latest blow to the Hurricanes’ depth up front.

Gak was hurt during a loss to Yale on Dec. 1 and is expected to be sidelined for six months. He averaged 2.5 points and 4.1 rebounds in eight games.

The Hurricanes are also without forward Dewan Hernandez, who has been sidelined since the start of the season as the school and NCAA review his eligibility.

Miami (5-4) has lost four consecutive games and next plays Houston Baptist on Dec. 19.
