Two vehicle crashes close Md. 700 in Middle River
Two crashes 10 minutes apart shut down both directions of Maryland Route 700 in Middle River on Friday afternoon, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration. The first accident occurred at 2:49 p.m. at Maryland 700 and Windlass Drive, according to police and fire department officials. The crash involved three vehicles and led to a minor fire, Baltimore County Fire Department spokeswoman Elise Armacost said. Two people were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, she said. The second accident, at 2:59 p.m., was less than half a mile away on Maryland 700 at Middle River Road. A Baltimore County police officer responding to the first crash struck a school bus carrying students from Parkville High School, Baltimore County police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Peach said. The school bus then struck another vehicle, whose driver was not injured, Peach said. Five students were on the bus at the time, and first responders were evaluating seven total bus occupants. One student was also taken to a hospital for evaluation for trouble breathing, Peach said. And a police officer was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, Armacost said.
