Weather forces cancellati­on of racing at Laurel Park

The Maryland Jockey Club canceled its live eightrace program at Laurel Park today because of the winter storm that moved through the area this weekend. Snow began falling in in the state late Saturday afternoon and continued overnight. Live racing returns to Laurel on Friday with a 12:30 p.m. post time. There will be a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday program next Monday.

WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Kionna Jeter scored 29 points to lead host Towson to a 92-68 win over Hoftstra (6-11, 0-5 Colonial Athletic Associatio­n). Qierra Murray added 14 points and Nukiya Mayo had10 for the Tigers (11-5, 5-0 CAA). MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: DeJuan Clayton tied a season high with 23 points, but host Coppin State (2-16, 2-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) fell, 80-66, to Norfolk State (8-10, 3-0) on Saturday night. ... Host Morgan State (6-10, 1-2 MEAC) outscored South Carolina State (3-13, 1-1) 41-28 in the second half, but the rally came up short in a 72-68 loss Saturday night. Stanley Davis posted career highs with 28 points and 19 rebounds for Morgan State.

MAJORARENA­SOCCERLEAG­UE: In former star player Pat Healey and former general manager Kevin Healey’s return to Baltimore, the Blast used a big fourth quarter to pull away for a 9-4 win over the Harrisburg Heat on Saturday night. Vini Dantas finished with two goals and two assists and the Blast scored four unanswered goals in the fourth to improve to 16-0 in their two seasons at SECU Arena. The win keeps the Blast (5-2) in second place in the Eastern Division as they remain a halfgame behind Utica City FC, which improved to 6-2 with a 5-4 win over Mississaug­a on Friday. The Heat, losers of four straight, are 1-5 and in the division basement.
