Locksley finalizes staff; 3 Terps to attend combine

Maryland football coach Michael Locksley has finalized his coaching staff and their roles heading into the 2019 season. In addition to the six hires announced in January, Locksley has added Jon Hoke as defensive coordinato­r/safeties coach, Joker Phillips as co-offensive coordinato­r/wide receivers coach, Delbert Cowsette as defensive line coach and Brian Williams as outside linebacker­s coach. Locksley also announced that special teams coordinato­r John Papuchis will coach inside linebacker­s and defensive passing game coordinato­r Cory Robinson will serve as cornerback­s coach.Hoke comes to College Park having spent 16 years on defensive staffs in the NFL and 21 years in college football. For the past three years, Hoke served as the defensive backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

MORE MARYLAND FOOTBALL: Defensive lineman Byron Cowart, offensive lineman Derwin Gray and defensive back Darnell Savage Jr. will participat­e in the NFL scouting combine March 1-4 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapol­is. Cowart, an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection, led the Terps with three sacks and was tied for third with five tackles for loss in 2018. He started all 12 games and recorded intercepti­ons against Rutgers and Michigan State. Gray, also an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection, anchored a Maryland offensive line that helped the Terps rush for 230.2 yards per game, which ranks third in the Big Ten and tied for 18th nationally. Savage, a secondteam All-Big Ten selection, tied for second in the conference and ranked 13th nationally with four intercepti­ons during his senior season. The defensive back ranked second on the team with 5.5 tackles for loss and fourth in total tackles (51). RUNNING: Meaghan Murray-Neuberger, 31, of Baltimore was the first women’s finisher in the 26.2 With Donna Marathon on Sunday in Jacksonvil­le, Fla., finishing in 3 hours, 19 seconds, more than 2 seconds ahead of the runner-up. She won the race in 2018 in 3:06:25 and in 2017 in 3:06:53.

NBA: Washington Wizards two-way player Jordan McRae was named to the All-NBA G League Eastern Conference midseason team. He leads the league in points per game at 30.0 and is the only player in the league with four games of at least 40 points.
