Daniel leads Navy to historic win

Navy has been playing men’s lacrosse since 1908 so it stands to reason the program would rank among the all-time victory leaders.

Even against the backdrop of that 112-year history, the Midshipmen still produced a major milestone on Friday night in Annapolis.

Sophomore attackman Christian Daniel was the offensive catalyst with five goals and an assist as Navy beat UMBC, 11-6, to become just the fourth college lacrosse program to reach 800 wins. Goalkeeper Ryan Kern recorded 14 saves to anchor a second straight solid defensive effort for the Midshipmen, who never trailed in the contest.

Navy now has an all-time record of 800-357-14, trailing only Johns Hopkins (983-335-15), Syracuse (903-348-16) and Maryland (824-271-4).

Senior midfielder Ryan Wade scored two goals and assisted another for Navy, which is off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2013. NFL: With a public hearing looming and owners facing deposition­s, the NFL settled collusion cases brought by Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid. The league and Kaepernick’s lawyer sent out statements saying “the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances” and that a confidenti­ality agreement would prevent either side from commenting further. It remains unclear if the NFL admitted wrongdoing or how much money Reid or Kaepernick may have received. Kaepernick and Reid filed grievances saying they were blackliste­d over protests during the national anthem.

SKIING: Henrik Kristoffer­sen produced a brilliant second run to win the giant slalom by 0.20 seconds at the world championsh­ips in Are, Sweden. Favorite Marcel Hirscher took silver, and first-leg leader Alexis Pinturault won bronze.
