Corey Seager hit two HRs and had five RBIs and Walker Buehler (13-3) allowed just four hits and struck out 11 in seven scorless innings in the win. It’s the earliest that the Dodgers (94-52) have ever clinched the division, both in terms of date and games. Zack Wheeler pitched one-run ball over seven innings, Justin Wilson navigated four difficult outs for his first save since April and the Mets beat the Diamondbacks 3-2 in New York. The Mets have taken the first two games in this key four-game set between NL playoff contenders. The D’backs had won 11 of 14 and opened the day 21⁄ games behind the Cubs for the second wild card. Todd Frazier drove a pair of run-scoring doubles for the Mets, who began the day four games behind the Cubs. D’backs rookie Zac Gallen (3-5) pitched threerun ball over six innings, becoming the second NL pitcher to begin his career with 14 consecutive starts allowing three earned runs or fewer. Brett Gardner and Didi Gregorius each homered twice, and Gleyber Torres and Edwin Encarnacion also went deep for the Yankees, whose 276 HRs tied the Twins for the major league lead. ... OF Mike Tauchman became the Yankees’ 30th player on the IL this season, the most in the major leagues in at least 15 years. The 28-year-old strained his left calf Sunday and is expected to miss the rest of the season. Acquired from the Rockies on March 23, Tauchman hit .277 with 13 HRs in 260 at-bats over 87 games. He’s the Yankees 15th player currently on the IL. MLB said the Yankees’ total on the IL is the most since at least 2004, topping the 28 for the Dodgers in both 2016 and 2017. The Red Sox had 27 in 2012. OF Byron Buxton will miss rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a damaged labrum in his left shoulder. Buxton batted .262 with 30 doubles, four triples, 10 HRs, 46 RBIs and 48 runs in only 271 at-bats. RHP Kyle Crick will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on the index finger of his pitching hand after he was injured in a clubhouse fight with fellow reliever Felipe Vazquez. Both players were fined an undisclosed amount by the Pirates for violating their contracts. The altercation occurred before Monday’s game against the Giants. Crick went 3-7 with a 4.96 ERA in 52 appearances. GM Mike Elias fired 14 members of the organization, most from the player development department and international operations. Elias has dismissed 25 people in an overhaul of the system that he inherited when taking the job in November. The names of those most recently fired weren’t released by the team.
