Broadneck volleyball wins region title

-

It was fairly easy to handicap how the No. 2 Broadneck volleyball team won a region title on Wednesday.

The Bruins simply put on a championship-level performance, so much that even No. 10 Severna Park’s best effort might not have been enough.

Broadneck used sustained runs in each set and swept Severna Park on Wednesday, 25-11, 25-16, 25-8, in the Class 4A East Region II final.

The Bruins advance to the state quarterfinals. Their opponent will be determined Thursday morning.

“They served us off the court. They ran a nice offense. They hit where they wanted to. They beat our blocks. They found holes in our defense all over the place,” Severna Park coach Tim Dunbar said. “They played a really nice match. It wasn’t a case of we played poorly, that’s why we lost. We played poorly because they made us play poorly.”

The Bruins used a seven-point run in the first, a five-point run in the second and runs of 11 and10 points in the third to pull away in each. The region title is their 11th and first since 2009.

EmmaQuandt led the Bruins with11kills, six digs and six service points.
