Cavs’ Windler out for sea­son

Cavaliers rookie swing­man Dy­lan Windler will miss the rest of the sea­son with a leg in­jury he sus­tained dur­ing the pre­sea­son.

The Cavs said Mon­day that Windler, the No. 26 over­all pick in last year’s draft, is still deal­ing with symp­toms from a stress re­ac­tion in his lower left leg. Windler was making progress and near­ing a re­turn to the Cavs un­til a re­cent set­back, and the team said he will now un­dergo surgery.

The team said Windler will have the op­er­a­tion Jan. 21. There’s no timetable yet for his re­turn.

The 6-foot-8 Windler av­er­aged 21.3 points and 10.8 re­bounds as a se­nior at Bel­mont. The Cavs were en­am­ored with his shoot­ing abil­ity af­ter he made 43% of his 3-point­ers last sea­son.

Pelicans win in OT: Lonzo Ball scored five of his 17 points in OTand the Pelicans beat the Pistons 117-110 on Mon­day in Detroit.

The Pelicans opened OT with a 9-2 run, in­clud­ing five points from Ball.

The Pelicans have won three of four and are now 9-4 af­ter a 6-22 start. Jalil Okafor had 25 points and 14 re­bounds, while Ni­colo Melli scored 20 points in the vic­tory.

The Pistons lost their third straight and 12th in their last 15 games. Der­rick Rose had 23 points and eight as­sists but turned the ball over twice in 90 sec­onds dur­ing OT. Chris­tian Wood added 18 points and nine re­bounds in the loss.
