Four killed Monday in separate incidents

A man was killed and two others were injured in a shooting in South Baltimore’s Cherry Hill neighborho­od on a violent Monday afternoon during which four people were shot, two fatally, in a three-hour span. For the triple shooting, Baltimore police spokeswoma­n Detective Chakia Fennoy said officers were called at 3:33 p.m. to the area of the 800 block of Bethune Road, near Cherry Hill Elementary/Middle School. Officers found two people in nearby locations who had been shot, one in the 800 block of Bethune and another in the 800 block of Roundview Road, Fennoy said. She said police believe the two were shot during the same incident. A 41-year-old man was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene. Police wrote in a news release that officers found a man shot in the head as they responded to a report of a shooting in the 2000 block of Griffis Avenue at 8:13 p.m. Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene. Earlier in the day, a 51-year-old woman died after she’d been stabbed in Baltimore’s Rosemont East neighborho­od around 1 p.m., police say. up this place? The trooper and assisting police officers found Metzler in his truck.

Harford Community College president resigns

Dianna G. Phillips has resigned as president of Harford Community College effective Monday, the Rev. Cordell E. Hunter Sr., the chair of the college’s board of trustees, announced. Jacqueline Jackson will serve as the interim president and a national search will be conducted to find the next president of HCC, according to a news release from the college. “The Board sincerely thanks Dr. Phillips for her contributi­ons to the College over the past three and a half years,” Hunter said in a prepared statement. “During her tenure, Dr. Phillips facilitate­d an inclusive strategic planning process, strengthen­ed the College’s partnershi­p with Harford County Public Schools, and fostered an optimal learning experience for students. We wish Dr. Phillips well in her future endeavors.” Phillips became the college’s ninth president in 2016.
