Navy tops Bucknell, sweeps the series

Davis scores 22, hits key 3-pointer to lift Mids

Junior point guard Cam Davis scored 22 points, including a crucial 3-pointer down the stretch, as host Navy beat Bucknell, 60-59, in men’s basketball on Wednesday night.

Davis only made six of 17 shots from the field, but was 7-for-8 at the freethrow line.

Sophomore swingman John Carter Jr. was the only other player in double digits with 10 points for Navy (13-11, 7-6), which moved back over .500 in the Patriot League. Freshman forward Tyler Nelson provided a spark off the bench with eight points and seven rebounds for the Midshipmen, who shot just 36% (20for-55) from the floor and committed 12 turnovers.

Navy swept the season series with Bucknell for the first time in 10 years.

Sophomore guard Andrew Funk did most of his damage early in scoring 20 points for Bucknell (9-17, 5-8), which hurt itself with 17 turnovers. Sophomore guard Walter Ellis scored11po­ints for the Bison, who have lost five straight for the first time since the 2008-09 season.

Towson 71, Regent 55: Nakye Sanders scored 18 points and Jakigh Dottin scored 14 off the bench and the host Tigers (15-11) beat the National Christian College Athletic Associatio­n-member Royals (3-13).

Towson built a 21-7 lead when Jason Gibson converted a three-point play with 9:29 before halftime.

But Regent fought back and outscored the Tigers 16-5 over a little more than the next eight minutes.

Hammock-Fitzgerald led Regent with 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting and Walston scored 11.

American 81, Loyola Maryland 76: The loss ended a three-game winning streak by the visiting Greyhounds (12-15, 4-10 Patriot). The Eagles improved to 13-11, 9-4.

Gettysburg 75, McDaniel 73: Mike Wallace had 23 points, but the host Green Terror (5-17, 1-14 Centennial Conference) suffered their seventh straight loss. The Bullets improved to 12-10, 6-8.

Hood 79, Lebanon Valley 70: Mason Wang scored 29 points to lead the host Blazers (14-8, 7-6 Middle Atlantic Conference Commonweal­th) past the Flying Dutchmen (10-12, 5-8).

Messiah 82, Stevenson 76: Norman Hughes scored 21 points and Mark Terrell had 19 points, but the host Mustangs (6-16, 3-10 MAC Commonweal­th) fell to the Falcons (10-13, 3-11).

Goucher 79, Elizabetht­own 67: Dwayne Morton scored 18 points to lead the visiting Gophers (5-17, 2-9 Landmark Conference) over the Blue Jays (11-10, 4-7). The win broke a five-game losing streak.

Frostburg State 63, Urbana 62: Daniel Alexander (34 points) made the game-winning buzzer-beater to lift the host Bobcats (10-13, 7-10 Mountain East Conference) over the Blue Knights (5-18, 4-13). The game was tied 26-26 in the first half.

State women

Loyola Maryland 56, American 47: Stephanie Karcz had 11 points and 15 rebounds to lead the host Greyhounds (7-16, 4-8 Patrioy) over the Eagles (9-13, 5-7). Karcz had two steals, 124 steals on the season and 436 in her career.

Bucknell 75, Navy 65: Mary Kate Ulasewicz scored a game-high 29 points, but the visiting Mids (7-16, 2-10 Patriot) fell to the Bison (17-6, 10-2). The loss was the fourth straight.

Johns Hopkins 63, Swarthmore 35: Diarra Oden scored a career-high 29 points to lead the host Blue Jays (14-8, 11-6 Centennial) over the Garnet (12-11, 9-9) .

Washington College 64, Ursinus 63: Crystal Jones made two free throws with 1.2 seconds left to lift the host Shorewomen (9-13, 6-11 Centennial) over the Bears (7-16, 6-12). Jones scored 11 points.

Elizabetht­own 58, Goucher 50: Anise Williams scored 20 points, but the host Gophers (5-17, 1-10 Landmark) fell to the Blue Jays (11-10, 7-4).

Urbana 66, Frostburg State 59: Victoria Diggs (Oakland Mills) scored a game-high 20 points, but the host Bobcats (4-19, 3-14 MEC) fell to the Blue Knights (15-8, 11-6).

Christophe­r Newport 89, St. Mary’s 49: The visiting Seahawks (3-19, 0-8 Capital Athletic Conference) lost their 13th straight. The Captains improved to 19-4, 8-0.

Notre Dame Maryland at College of Saint Elizabeth 82, Notre Dame Maryland 68: Ariana Alleyne (Mount Carmel) scored 22 points, but the visiting Gators (15-7, 11-4 Colonial States Athletic Conference) fell to the Eagles (16-5, 13-2).
