■ MLB: An umpire tested positive f or t he coronavirus, prompting a late shift in crew assignments in Florida this week, The AP reported. The affected umpirewasn’t identified. MLB medical experts didn’t believe the positive test represented a threat of infection or presented a risk to other personnel. A dozen umps, including eight crew chiefs, opted out of the season because of virus considerations.

■ Cardinals: MLB suspended manager Mike Shildt one game for his role in a bench-clearing fracas in Milwaukee, and missed the nightcap of the Cardinals’ doubleheader against the Brewers. Shildt was suspended and fined an undisclosed amount “for actions that contributed to inciting the benches-clearing incident” in the fifth inning of an 18-3 loss to the Brewres on Tuesday night. ■ Yankees: All-Star OF Aaron Judge was activated, giving the Yankees a full stable of active regulars for the first time since Aug. 8. LHP James Paxton was placed on the 45-day IL, ending his season. Judge has been out since Aug. 26 after aggravating a strained right calf and landing on the IL for the second time this season. Judge initially went on the IL on Aug. 14, returned for one game and promptly was put back on the shelf. Judge was batting .292 with nine HRs, 20 RBIs and a 1.081 OPS in 18 games this season. Paxton, 31, hasn’t pitched since Aug. 20, and the Yankees had been hoping he could recover from a strained left flexor tendon in his pitching arm. Paxton finished the season 1-1 with a 6.64 ERA in five starts. He can become a free agent after the season.

■ Athletics: Mike Fiers (6-2) threw six sharp innings before turning it over to a lights-out bullpen and the A’s beat the host Rockies 3-1. Next up, a well-earned day off for the A’s, who have played 16 games in 13 days. They finished the stretch 9-7. The Rockies were 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position against the 35year-old Fiers (6-2). The bullpen with the best ERA in baseball took it from there. Jake Lamb had two hits, including an RBI single as part of a two-run sixth that gave the A’s a 3-1 lead. Lamb is 5-for-11 since agreeing to terms with the A’s on Monday after being released by Diamondbacks. ■ Extra innings: Rookie Luis Garcia hit a two-run HR in the 10th and the visiting Nationals beat the AL East-leading Rays 4-2. Brandon Lowe got the Rays even at 2 when he hit a solo HRoff Daniel Hudson (2-2) with two outs in the ninth. ... Luis Castillo, coming off his first career complete game, retired nine of the last 10 batters he faced and gave up only three hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts, Shogo Akiyama drove in the game’s only run, and the host Reds extended their winning streak to a season-high five games with a 1-0 victory over the Pirates. ... Rookie Brady Singer was stellar for a second straight start, allowing two hits in six innings, and the Royals blanked the visiting Tigers 4-0. Singer (3-4), who pitched eight one-hit innings in his previous outing, struck out the first five Tigers hitters and retired the first 10.
