TYLER, Gilbert

-

Gilbert Ricardo Tyler passed away peacefully after a yearlong battle with brain cancer. Since June 2020, he has undergone chemotherapy and radiation treatments for a malignant brain tumor. He fought a great fight being hospitalized several times and confined to long term care resident facilities. The Lord called him to be with the angels at 1:43 p.m. on June 29, 2021. Gil was born in Annapolis, Maryland on December 29, 1951 to his parents Charles Edward Tyler and Elsie Brashears, He was raised by his beloved paternal grandmother, Catherine CrowdySmith. Known to family and close friends as “Ricky”, he attended Annapolis Elementary and graduated from Annapolis High School. Gil attended Towson University and graduated from the University of Phoenix in 2003 with a BS in Business Information Systems.

Gil worked a total of 47 years beginning as a technician at Westinghouse Electric Corporation, which later became Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation. During his tenure at Northrop Grumman, Gil was fortunate enough to work several international work assignments. Although Gil’s work was sensitive in nature and he could not discuss exactly what he did, he was an excellent employee, who was greatly admired by his peers and department leaders. Gil worked in Calibration and Test area for several years before joining the Software Quality Engineering Organization in 2006. While in this group, Gil worked on the F-35, STARLite and the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Programs. In 2018 when the Quality Department underwent a reorganization, Gil was assigned to the Space Business Unit where he supported small Space programs but continued to support non-space ones, such as Triton, F-35, and SABR. Gil was working as a Software Quality Engineer when he retired.

Gil had a love for travel and with his beloved wife Beverly, traveled all over the world. They visited Norway, Hong Kong, France, Canada, Bermuda, and cities across the United States. Gil loved fine dining and would secure reservations at fine dining restaurants before he booked the hotel rooms there. His second search would be for concerts and places known for live music wherever he traveled. He was an audiophile and loved live music performances. He was always tinkering with his audio equipment at home, seeking to reproduce the sound of a live musical performance. He loved all types of music, including classical and blues, but his favorite genre was “real jazz”. He would tease his niece and nephew about their love for hip/ hop stating “that’s not real music”!

Gil was a man of God. He believed in the power of prayer and his faith was unyielding even when his health was failing. He attended Epworth United Methodist Chapel for many years where he met and married his wife, Beverly. During the Pandemic Gil continued to attend virtual Sunday service with Epworth Chapel via Zoom.

Gil was a loving son, husband, brother, brother-in law, son-in law, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He will be sorely missed by family and his co-workers. His greater than life physique was coupled with a gentle spirit and heart filled with kindness. He is survived by his wife Beverly, his Dad, sisters, aunts, cousins, a niece, and nephew.

No memorial service is currently scheduled. You may express condolences online at Wylie Funeral Home Obituaries guestbook. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
