One person died and three people were injured in a series of shootings in Baltimore City on Sunday night and into early Monday morning, police said.

A few minutes before 1 a.m. Monday, officers patrolling in Fells Point heard gunfire, Baltimore Police said in a news release. They responded to the 1700 block of Thames Street, which contains a number of waterside bars and restaurants, where they found a 30-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to the Johns Hopkins Hospital and pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Luana Kaufmann, shop owner of Emporium Collagia, said she had heard about the shooting through the grapevine.

“It’s horrible that someone was shot to death,” Kaufmann said Monday evening. “Obviously, it’s bad for business. But Fells Point still brings much joy to locals and visitors from all over the country and the world. It remains one of the jewels of Baltimore.

“I don’t want people to be afraid of this neighborhood. This is happening everywhere. I think late at night after lots of liquor — maybe there is a tendency for more chaos.”

Denzil Richards, owner of Denzel’s SharkBarGrill, hadn’t heard about the fatal shooting but said he isn’t afraid.

“The reason why I’m not afraid is because whenever there’s a shooting, usually they know each other,” he said Monday. “A stranger is not going to walk up to a stranger and shoot just like that. That’s not going to happen.”

Before the Fells Point shooting, police already had responded to three others elsewhere in the city Sunday night.

First, a few minutes after 9:30 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to the 2800 block of Edmondson Avenue in West Baltimore for a reported shooting.

Officers located the crime scene but determined the injured victim had fled the scene, police said in a news release. But shortly thereafter, a man walked into an area hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound, police said.

Then, at 10:24 p.m., officers responded to the 3900 block of Benzinger Road in Southwest Baltimore’s Oaklee neighborhood for a reported shooting. They found a 30-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was transported to the hospital, where he was expected to survive his injuries, police said.

About 25 minutes later, officers were dispatched to a hospital, where another shooting victim was seeking treatment. A 17-year-old boy had been shot in the torso but was expected to survive his injuries, police said. Officers believe he was shot in the 4100 block of Frederick Avenue in West Baltimore’s Irvington neighborhood.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shootings to contact them or call Metro Crime Stoppers.
