Cooper, Cherry lead McDonogh

Elise Cooper was part of four event wins and Nyla Cherry won three individual events as McDonogh distanced itself from the field.

McDonogh won with 221.5 points, a half-point shy of doubling up secondplac­e Maryvale Prep (111). Mount de Sales was third (104), followed by Notre Dame Prep (87.5) and Roland Park (67).

Cooper won the 100 (12.01) and 200 (23.9). She teamed with Adrianna Thomas, Le’la Greene and Kelsey Smith to win the 4x100 (48.3). Cooper, Thomas, Natalie Little and Piper Borz won the 4x200 (1:47.48). Cherry won the 100 hurdles (15.44), long jump (17-2 ½) and high jump (5-0).

Also for McDonogh, Delaney Yarborough won the shot put (34-10 ¾) and Ava McKennie won the triple jump (35-1 ½). Mary Gorsky, Zewdi Tesfayohan­nes, Olivia Ozbolt and Sophie Bredar won the 4x800 (10:01.78).

Mount de Sales’ Juliette Whittaker posted three impressive wins. Whittaker won the 1,600 (4:44.63) by 27.6 seconds and the 3,200 (10:53.67) by 32 seconds. She also won the 800 (2:21.47) and ran on the winning 4x400 relay with MyKenzie Britton, Mydison Britton and Jordan Harris (3:57.38).

Bryn Mawr’s Ella Cooper won the 400 (57.95) and finished second to Elise Cooper in the 100 and 200.

Also winning events were Spalding’s Arden Martino in the pole vault (11 feet), Notre Dame Prep’s Sydney Britt in the discus (88-5) and Maryvale Prep’s Leanely Cruz in the 300 hurdles (47.78).
