Right to bear arms should only apply to flintlock pistols and muskets
I’ve got an idea that will make the “originalists” on the Supreme Court happy and will make America safer. With the recent shooting in Texas and the revised interest (yet again) in gun control, let’s take the conservative “originality” justices at their word (“Texas shooting demonstrates why Maryland’s ban on assault weapons must stand,” May 25). When the 2nd Amendment was written, the arms available were flintlock pistols and muskets. Thus, by their own definition, only flintlock pistols and muskets are covered constitutionally and should be the only available firearms today. That would satisfy the “originalists.” And 18-yearolds in Texas, who can’t even by beer at that age, but can buy AR-15s, would be deterred in their efforts to buy military grade weapons and slaughter 4th graders.
