Hall of Fame DB Woodson to join radio broadcasts

- By Matt Cohen

Hall of Fame defensive back and former Raven Rod Woodson will be in the booth as the color commentator for Ravens radio broadcasts in 2022, the team announced Monday.

“Being a part of the Ravens’ gameday broadcast team is a blessing,” Woodson said in a news release. “To be back with the team that I won my only Super Bowl with — the team’s first Super Bowl in franchise history — will be fun.”

Woodson will be paired with playby-play commentator Gerry Sandusky, who has broadcasted the Ravens since 2006. Woodson has worked for multiple seasons as an analyst after his 17-year NFL career, including for Westwood One’s gameday coverage and the Ravens’ 2021 preseason coverage.

Sandusky and Woodson will broadcast the Ravens preseason games, and CBS’ Evan Washburn will return to the sidelines in the preseason as he has in previous seasons.

While Sandusky has been in the booth for nearly two decades, his color commentator has changed frequently in recent years. Woodson is the eighth color commentator since 2017. Femi Ayanbadejo, a member of the Ravens’ Super Bowl XXXV-winning team, had the role with former Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta in 2020 and by himself in 2021.

Woodson was a member of the Ravens’ Super Bowl XXXV-winning team and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009. He is third all-time with 71 career interceptions and returned 12 of them for touchdowns, an NFL record.

“Rod brings the unique perspective of someone who has both played and coached at the highest level of the game, and he does it in a down-to-earth way that is approachable, likable and just plain fun,” Sandusky said in the release. “It’s a privilege to work with a broadcast partner like Rod.”

Ravens broadcasts will remain on WBAL Radio 1090 AM/101.5 FM and 98Rock WIYY FM.
