Maryland Congresswoman Cheney? A win-win

- — Margaret Engvall, Baltimore

I was sorry to see the article in today’s Baltimore Sun that suggests that Liz Cheney might not be running for president in ‘24. Although I am not a Republican, it is sad to see one of their party’s brightest lights go dim. She is a woman of intelligence, principle and good sense. She also has a backbone, lacking among many in Congress. We need more like her so that honest debate and compromise can be returned to government.

In the early 2000’s, when her father was vice president, he owned a home in Talbot County. I suggest that Liz Cheney purchase another home there. Then she could run for Maryland’s 1st Congressional District seat, challenging Andy Harris. Maryland could gain a representative of conscience, replacing someone who espouses Trump’s lie of the “stolen election,” with a person who can differentiate fact from fiction, while maintaining her conservative outlook. This would be a win-win for Maryland and Liz Cheney!
