Police: 3 kids, 2 adults found dead in Cecil County home

-

ELK MILLS — Three children and two adults were found dead of gunshot wounds Friday morning at a Cecil County home, according to the Cecil County Sheriff ’s Office.

The Cecil County Sheriff

’s office said the children were in the 5th through 8th grades.

The five were found in the unit block of Hebron Court in Elk Mills, just north of Elkton and a few miles from the Delaware state line, after a man called 911 from the home to report that three children and a woman had been fatally shot, the sheriff ’s office said.

Deputies found an unresponsive person inside a detached garage shortly after 9:30 a.m. and, after entering the house, they found the other victims. All appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds, according to the sheriff ’s office, and a semi-automatic handgun was found near the deceased man.

Four schools in the area were placed on a code yellow alert, to be in a heightened state of awareness, but officials said there was no threat to the public.

A critical incident stress management team was sent to the scene to speak with deputies, paramedics and others involved in this investigation, the sheriff ’s office said. Cecil County Animal Services also was contacted because pets were found inside the home.

The sheriff ’s office said it requested the help of a Maryland State Police crime scene technician. The office has not released the identities of any of the victims.

The shooting occurred in a residential neighborhood about 60 miles northeast of Baltimore.
