TE Andrews, RB Edwards return to practice

- By Jonas Shaffer

Ravens tight end Mark Andrews practiced Wednesday for the first time in nearly a month, raising hopes that he could return for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers after missing most of the team’s past two games.

Andrews wasn’t on hand for the start of practice Wednesday, but coach John Harbaugh said afterward that he “ended up coming out” after the session was closed to reporters. The All-Pro has been dealing with shoulder and knee injuries, which forced him to miss the Ravens’ Week 9 win over the New

Orleans Saints, the first injury-related absence of his career. He was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Andrews, who leads the team in catches and receiving yards, was first sidelined early in the Ravens’ Week 8 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He hasn’t practiced fully since mid-October, and his last practice before Wednesday was on Oct. 21.

Running back Gus Edwards (hamstring), also inactive in Week 9, returned to practice along with outside linebacker Jason PierrePaul (ankle), who was limited to seven snaps against the Saints. Edwards, who’s averaging 4.9 yards per carry, was hurt late in the Ravens’ win over the Buccaneers and was limited Wednesday. Pierre-Paul was a full participant.

“I think I was planning on [Edwards] being back this game,” Harbaugh said Wednesday, “and we’ll see if he makes it.”

Left tackle Ronnie Stanley, defensive lineman Calais Campbell, outside linebacker Justin Houston and cornerback Marcus Peters missed practice Wednesday to rest. Cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis (hip) was limited. Harbaugh said the rookie “had a little thing in special teams, a muscle deal, so we’ll see how that goes, see how he responds to that.”

Practice squad wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who left the win over New Orleans with a hamstring injury, also was missing.

Three defensive starters for Carolina missed practice Wednesday: defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis (calf ), linebacker Frankie Luvu (illness) and safety Myles Hartsfield (ankle). Starting right tackle Taylor Moton (elbow), starting fullback Giovanni Ricci (neck) and starting cornerback Jaycee Horn (foot) were limited. Reserve safety Juston Burris (illness) and reserve defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon (illness) were also limited.

Panthers quarterback P.J. Walker, who took over for Baker Mayfield earlier this season, has already been ruled out of Sunday’s game with a high-ankle sprain.
