No update on QB Jackson ahead of playoffs

Status up in air; RB Edwards placed in concussion protocol

Lamar Jackson’s status for the Ravens’ playoff matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals remains uncertain after coach John Harbaugh said he had no update Monday on his franchise quarterback.

Jackson has not practiced or played since he left the Ravens’ Week 13 victory on Dec. 4 over the Denver Broncos with a knee injury. The Ravens clinched a playoff berth with Tyler Huntley at quarterback but have not scored more than one touchdown in a game since the last weekend in November.

“Lamar’s been in great spirits,” Harbaugh said during his Monday news conference. “He’s been working super hard. He was out there again today. I mean, I don’t watch the workouts. He’s with the trainers. And hopefully, it’s progressing to the point where he’s able to practice sometime soon. That’s what we’re all hoping for, for sure. When we have something to report on that, we will. That’s just the truth of it. But he’s been great; he’s always in good spirits. He wants to play. There’s no doubt.”

Meanwhile, Harbaugh said running back Gus Edwards, who left Sunday’s loss to the Bengals after being checked for a head injury, is in concussion protocol. “It’s just in the process,” he said. “So we’ll see where that goes.”

Harbaugh also said tight end Nick Boyle, who was released along with wide receiver DeSean Jackson on Saturday to create roster space, could return. Boyle had been with Baltimore since 2015 and played 12 games this year.

“We have some options, in terms of bringing him back or possibly the practice squad,” Harbaugh said. “I would say Nick is still in our plans.”

DeSean Jackson, who caught nine passes in seven games for the Ravens, will not be back. “I can’t say enough about DeSean; I really enjoyed being around him,” Harbaugh said. “I’m just kind of appreciative that we had a chance just to get to know him. … But we’ll just be moving forward from there.”
