Durant out 1 month; Curry set for return

-

Kevin Durant has a sprained right knee, and ESPN reported that it’s expected he will be out about one month.

Durant was hurt Sunday during the third quarter of the Nets’ 102-101 road win against the Heat after Jimmy Butler fell into his knee.

He had an MRI on Monday that revealed an isolated sprain in his medial collateral ligament.

The Nets said he would be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Durant has led the Nets to 18 wins in their last 20 games and a 27-13 record.

He missed 21 games last season when he sprained his left MCL in January — also when a player fell into him — and the Nets fell apart. They went 5-16, tumbling down the standings, and their poor play without him contributed to Durant’s disappointment with the franchise and trade request over the summer.

Durant eventually rescinded the request and has been playing some of the best basketball of his career this season. He’s sixth in the league with 29.7 points per game and shooting a career-high 55.9% from the field.

The Warriors listed Stephen Curry as probably for Tuesday’s home game against the Suns. The 34-year-old two-time league MVP has missed the last 11 games with a partially dislocated left shoulder.

College basketball: Houston is back at No. 1 in The AP poll for the second time this season. The Cougars claimed 34 of 60 firstplace votes in the latest poll to return to the top after a two-week stay there earlier this season. They led No. 2 Kansas and No. 3 Purdue.

NHL: Oilers GM Ken Holland told ESPN that winger Evander Kane is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a lacerated left wrist and could rejoin the lineup by the end of the month. Kane hasn’t played since Nov. 11 after his left wrist was cut by the skate blade of Lightning forward Pat Maroon.
