Carr eager for challenge of new team

-

Quarterback Derek Carr said Thursday in his first public comments since being benched by Raiders coach Josh McDaniels with two weeks left in the season that he’s ready for the challenge of playing in a new city. “I once said that if I’m not a Raider I would rather be at home, but I never envisioned it ending this way,” Carr posted on Twitter. “That fire burning inside of me to win a championship still rages . ... So I look forward to a new city and a new team who ... will get everything I have.” Carr started 142 games over nine seasons for the Raiders. He helped lead the Raiders to playoff appearances in 2016 and 2021 and owns multiple team records but struggled in his first season under coach McDaniels. That ultimately led to the decision from McDaniels and first-year GM Dave Ziegler to move on from Carr less than a year after signing him to a three-year extension for $120.5 million. The Raiders can try to reach an agreement on a trade for Carr. But Carr has a no-trade clause under his deal, giving him control over his destination. That could force the Raiders to simply cut him.
