Jones steps in as ‘Daily Show’ host

-

Comedian Leslie Jones is taking a temporary whirl as host of “The Daily Show” this week, and she says viewers can expect her trademark — some blunt, edgy humor.

“I’m not Jon Stewart. I’m not Trevor Noah. I’m Leslie Jones. So I’ll be bringing that vulnerable honesty,” the “Saturday Night Live” alum joked in an interview ahead of her first night hosting Tuesday.

Jones’ stand-in as host continues Wednesday and Thursday. “The Daily Show” host Noah stepped down late last year, and a permanent successor has not yet been named.

In a video promotion, correspondent Roy Wood Jr. is seen helping Jones practice identifying prominent people like Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

However, Jones said she has been keeping up with daily events and personalities to ensure “The Daily Show” is still topical under her watch, but she also has her own plans.

“We got already a lot of ideas wrapped up and what we want to do and what we want the show to look like,” she said. “Of course, that changes with daily events. If something big happened, of course, we would have to change it for that.”

Asked if she’d be interested in hosting the show on a permanent basis, Jones was noncommittal.

“I don’t really want to answer that,” she said.

Making his first speaking appearance since sexual assault allegations derailed his career, actor Kevin Spacey thanked the National Cinema Museum in the city of Turin on Monday for having the courage to invite him.

The sold-out events were billed as Spacey’s first speaking engagements in five years. He did not directly address the allegations at Monday’s events.
