49ers QB Purdy tore UCL in loss to Eagles

-

49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy tore a ligament in his throwing elbow early in Sunday’s NFC championship game loss to the Eagles, putting his status for the start of next season in question.

Purdy reportedly tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right arm and said he will seek a second opinion on whether he needs a repair or a reconstruction.

A repair typically would lead to Purdy being sidelined for six months, which would mean he could return close to the start of training camp. A reconstruction would likely sideline Purdy into the 2023 season.

It’s the latest QB injury for the 49ers. They lost 2021 first-round draft pick Trey Lance in Week 2 and veteran Jimmy Garoppolo, who’s eligible to be a free agent in March, in Week 13.

Purdy took over and won his first seven starts before Sunday’s loss.

The Chargers agreed to terms with Kellen Moore to be their new offensive coordinator. The move comes less than 24 hours after Moore and the Cowboys parted ways . ... The NFL told its 32 teams that the 2023 salary cap will be a record $224.8 million, ESPN reported. It will be increase of $16.6 million from the 2022 salary cap.

The Royals and RHP Zack Greinke agreed to a one-year deal, according to reports. Financial terms weren’t yet available. The 39-year-old Greinke spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Royals before returning last year. The six-time All-Star and 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner was 4-9 with a 3.68 ERA in 26 starts last season.
