John A. Courtney, Sr, of Baltimore, Maryland, (born February 11, 1923), entered into eternity on March 11, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, son, Michael, brother Ken, sisters, Jeanne and Pat, and many other relatives and friends. He is survived by his remaining four children (Susan, Mark (Barbara), John, Mary Jo (William) and their families including nine grandchild­ren and two great grandchild­ren.

John enlisted in the naval reserves in July of 1940 after completing his junior year of high school. He was called up to active duty in October of 1940 and served for three and a half years aboard the J Fred Talbot destroyer before requesting and being transferre­d to submarine school. He served on the USS Pintado (SS387) for two patrols off the coast of Japan and participat­ed in the rescue of 12 airmen who had to ditch their badly damaged B29.

After the war John met and married the love of his life, Lillian (Brusini) and they were married for 70 years before she passed away in January 2017.

John was a devoted husband, loving and nurturing father, and a true friend. He loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends and adored his children and grandchild­ren.

A Mass will be held on Monday, March 20th, at 11:00AM at Our Lady of the Angels, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsvill­e (21228) with a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wounded Warriors or the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n. Informatio­n may also be found at
