Police ID slain Baltimore high school student

Another city schools student died Thursday in a hospital after he was found wounded by gunfire in the morning in Northeast Baltimore.

The shooting was one of four Thursday that also left another man dead and two other people injured.

Officers responded to a shooting about 9:45 a.m. Thursday at a gas station on the corner of East Northern Parkway and McClean Boulevard in the Hamilton Hills neighborho­od and located a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, according to Baltimore Police. He was taken to an area hospital where he died, police said.

Police identified the man Friday as 20-yearold Breon Traquan Ennis.

A city schools spokespers­on confirmed that Ennis was a student in the Achievemen­t Academy at Harbor City High School.

The corner serves as a school bus stop, where students were waiting on the bus and witnessed the shooting, city schools spokespers­on Sherry Christian said.

City schools were closed to students Friday for profession­al developmen­t, but counseling will be available for Achievemen­t Academy students next week, Christian said.

Ennis is the sixth Baltimore City Public Schools student to be shot and killed this year. At least three times as many have been shot and injured.

Earlier Thursday in West Baltimore, police responding to an 8 a.m. call in the 600 block of North Arlington Avenue in the Harlem Park neighborho­od found a man in the street suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

He was declared dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.

Police said another man was shot Thursday morning in West Baltimore while attempting to tow a car.

Baltimore Police said a preliminar­y investigat­ion determined that the 36-year-old was shot in the 2900 block of Garrison Boulevard in the Garwyn Oaks neighborho­od around 8 a.m. Officers and paramedics met him about half a mile away at the Liberty Heights Fire

Station in the Forest Park neighborho­od. Medics transporte­d the man to a hospital to treat his nonfatal gunshot wound.

And Thursday evening, a 47-year-old man was injured in a shooting in West Baltimore, according to police. The man walked into a hospital at about 8:21 p.m. suffering from a non-life-threatenin­g gunshot wound, police said. Investigat­ors determined he was shot in the 1300 block of North Gilmor Street in Sandtown-Winchester.

Western District shooting detectives are investigat­ing the shooting, and ask those with informatio­n to contact them at 410-396-2477.
