A 42-year-old Riva resident killed his wife and another man before ending his own life in a busy Annapolis parking lot Friday, Anne Arundel Police said.

The gunman, George Edward Huff, of Riva, shot Alexandra Abbott Huff, 34, of Riva, and George Michael Petrullo, 38, of Annapolis, and then turned the gun on himself near a Holiday Inn Express & Suites in the Parole neighborhood, police said. Police announced the identities Monday morning of the three people involved in the “targeted” shooting that occurred just after 2 p.m. Friday at the Annapolis Town Center.

Lt. Jacklyn Davis, a police spokesperson, confirmed that George and Alexandra Huff were married, but police did not release information on Petrullo’s relationship with the couple.

A witness who was sitting in a window booth at Mission BBQ in the busy commercial district just off Riva Road on Friday afternoon said a man burst into the restaurant saying there had been a shooting outside. Ira Winkler, a Davidsonville resident, said he looked up to see a middle-aged man, believed to be George Huff, firing shots at a white Acura as it peeled out of the parking lot.

Huff then wandered the parking lot for a few moments before turning the gun on himself, Winkler said.

Police arrived soon after to find Alexandra Huff and George Huff, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.

Petrullo drove a short distance in the Acura before stopping at the Alltackle fishing supply store on Somerville Road. The injured man entered the store asking for help. Keith Fraser, owner of Alltackle, said he could tell the man had been shot multiple times and was struggling to breathe.

A customer carried Petrullo outside and placed him on the ground to wait for first responders, Fraser said.

Firefighters transported Petrullo to a local hospital where he later died, police said.

On Monday, a GoFundMe page was created to raise money for Petrullo’s two daughters. By Monday evening more than $9,200 had been raised.

“Mike was a husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Mike’s passing will have a profound and emotionally devastating effect on his family and friends in the weeks, months, and years ahead,” the page reads. “Funds will be used for immediate expenses and for Mike’s two daughters who he loved more than life itself.”

The Huffs lived in waterfront community in Riva on a quiet street dotted with mature oak trees. A woman who answered the door, but did not give her name, told a reporter the couple has two children, ages 4 and 6, and asked that the news media respect their family’s privacy.

Employees at businesses near where the shooting occurred sought to return to normal Monday, speculating about why the tragedy happened and lamenting the violence in their community. Cameron Fridley, an employee at Alltackle said the shooting “doesn’t seem like something to feel unsafe about,” just an unfortunate circumstance.

“It wasn’t gang-related or drug-related, just unfortunate that it happened here,” Fridley said.

Homicide detectives are investigating the killings, which are the seventh and eighth homicides in the county this year. They ask anyone with any information to call 410-222-4731 or the TipLine at 410-2224700.
