best catchers in the county this year,” Leader said.

Replacing an ace pitcher such as Chase Supensky and the nine games he won in leading Towson to the Class 3A state title game last year gave coach Shawn Tormey plenty to consider.

Fortunately, another left-hander on last year’s squad, Jackson Huck, already showed he was primed for the role.

Last year as a sophomore, Huck pitched 24 innings and won two games, including a gutsy, complete-game win against Reservoir, 2-1, that sent the Generals to the state title game.

“It was almost unspoken, like Chase graduated and you’re next man up. He’s done a great job with it,” Tormey said.

“Early in the season, we went to Perry Hall and beat them 3-1 with Jackson going the distance, pitching a great game. It was almost like, ‘OK, when Jackson is on the mound, whatever the situation may be, we’re going to be fine.’ That’s how the team felt and he’s taken on that leadership role and he’s got that bulldog in him.”

Banking on last season’s success and grateful for the tutelage he received from Supensky, Huck has thrived as the team’s top pitcher in leading the Generals to first place in the Baltimore County standings. In eight starts covering 39-plus innings, Huck has four wins with a 2.30 ERA and 45 strikeouts.

“It feels great to know that you’re the guy everybody is going to look to for Towson. It’s definitely big for me,” he said. “Last year, I’d go to the mound with butterflies, but now

I go into a game feeling like I’ll shut teams down and do well.”
