NONEMAKER, Richard Aulton WILLIS, Leonard L.

Richard Aulton Nonemaker, beloved husband, brother, and uncle, aged 80, passed away on May 19, 2023, in Chambersbu­rg, Pennsylvan­ia, with his devoted and loving wife, Margaret (Olsen), at his bedside.

He is also survived by his brothers Karl (Judy), Walt (Krista), John (Marti), and Lewis (Karla), his sister, Lindsey Lyders, and many nephews, nieces, and grandnephe­ws and grandniece­s.

Born on February 1, 1943 in Queens, New York, to Aubrey and Eleanor (Arnold) Nonemaker, Richard grew up in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. He graduated from Brewster Academy, Wolfeboro, New Hampshire and then earned a degree in History from Bethany College, Bethany, West Virginia. After college, he moved to Maryland where he was a dedicated and much respected teacher of Social Studies in Harford County for 36 years.

Richard loved life. As his mother wrote about Richard when he was five months old, he was “rough, tough, and happy.” He remained that way throughout his life. He enjoyed square dancing, golfing, tennis, cruising, and traveling around the country to visit and celebrate with family and to support them in their activities. He also loved following the Yankees, Duke basketball, and any sport in which his nieces and nephews participat­ed.

THORNTON-RIVARD, Devata

Devata Elnora Thornton-Rivard, a retired U.S. Air Force Telephone Operator, died of dementia following a stroke on May 17th at the Autumn Lake Assisted Living in Parkville, MD. The former Las Vegas, NE resident was 75. She was the daughter of Vivian Moore (nee Thornton) and the stepdaught­er of Rufus Moore. Elnora was the oldest of eleven children. She graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 1965. In 1980 she married Anthony Rivard. Survivors include her husband, Anthony Rivard of Las Vegas, NE; her sisters, Ruby Harlee, Marcella Matthews, Dian Moore, Anita Moore-Coleman, and Tonya Moore, and her brothers, Henry Moore, Larry Moore, Victor Moore, Maurice Moore and Rufus Moore III, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. The memorial service is June 24th at 3:00 PM at Freedom Baptist Missionary Church, 3455 Erdman Ave. 21213.

The officers and members of Local Union #24 IBEW, regret to announce the death of retired brother Leonard L. Willis and extends sincere sympathy to his family.
