Sr. Barbara Baker, a member of the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart for 63 years, went home to God on January 1, 2024, at Stella Maris in Timonium, Maryland. She was 80 years old. Her first ministry was in Brockway, Pennsylvan­ia, at the Diocesan Catechetic­al Center where she taught religion to children and led methods/doctrine courses for adults. Over the next 20 years, Sr. Barbara became a leader in the field of religious education, serving in dioceses in Pennsylvan­ia, New York, Ohio, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, and various military posts in Germany. She served in congregati­onal ministries that included both vocational and leadership programs. In 1986 she was called to Transfigur­ation Parish in Marietta, Georgia, where she served for 12 years as Pastoral Associate before returning to the north as Pastoral Associate at St. Jude Apostle in Rochester, New York. The St. Jude Parish later joined St. Charles Borromeo and Sr. Barbara was Pastoral Associate for both churches. Her most recent mission was as Pastoral Associate at the Church of the Resurrecti­on in Fairport, New York. Sr. Barbara held a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Notre Dame University of Maryland and had completed the course work for a master’s degree in Religious Studies at Manhattan College in New York.
