DARRYL VLASIK
One of Darryl’s biggest influences was his father, an artist, who encouraged his son to keep painting and who believed in Darryl’s talent “even when I would sometimes get frustrated with the business.”
Besides his dad, other influences on Vlasik’s work include Norman Rockwell and Carl Benders, a wildlife artist.
Darryl’s work hangs in the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and Comiskey Park and he has also done work for Upper Deck.
Vlasik says it’s hard for him to pick a favorite piece he’s created, because he says whatever he is working on at the time is his favorite. But he did point out he likes a Satchel Paige painting he did because of the uniform colors that he diligently researched.
As for what people draw from his work, Vlasik says “I hope people will appreciate the old time baseball players when they see how they actually looked in their color wool uniforms and old style gloves and bats.”
