THREE EARLY AND SIGNIFICANT PANINI FLAWLESS SALES

- BY STEVE DALTON

The last of the 2018-19 basketball card products to hit the market, Panini Flawless dropped on November 8, returning with a high-end mix of low print runs, premium swatches, on-card signatures and decorative diamonds. Hobby boxes contain ten cards, eight of which are autographs; one memorabilia card and a single gem card round out the contents. Here are three notable sales from the market activity thus far:

1. 2018-19 PANINI FLAWLESS #81 LUKA DONCIC RC – $3,639.89

With a print run of just 20 copies and accentuated by an embedded diamond, this Doncic issue is destined to be among his most scarce and valuable Rookie Cards. The 2018-19 ROY has been on fire so far this season, averaging almost a triple double at 28.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 9.3 assists through 11 games. As a result of his hot start, Doncic rookies have seen price increases almost across the board, with collectors buying up any and all “cheap” copies amid the rising tide.

2. 2018-19 PANINI FLAWLESS DUAL PATCHES LEBRON JAMES/20 – $652

Speaking of hot starts, the four-time MVP is playing at peak form. Not all 2018-19 products depict James in his Lakers uniform, and collectors continue to eat up the cards that do, including this attractive Flawless specimen that features game-worn memorabilia to boot.

3. 2018-19 PANINI FLAWLESS VERTICAL PATCH AUTOGRAPHS TRAE YOUNG/15 – $2,471

One notable aspect of the Flawless brand is that it is the first set to have game-used memorabilia from the 2018-19 rookie class. This particular card, serial numbered to 15, sports the winning combination of game-worn material and an on-card autograph. On par in hotness with Doncic, Young has stirred the secondary market with a 28 PPG average through ten games, including a 42-point explosion in a November 12 victory over Denver.
