2020 PANINI LEGACY MARRIES OLD WITH NEW. AND ARE THOSE DARE TO TEAR CARDS WE SEE?

Part retro, part modern, 2020 Panini Legacy Football cards look at the past, present and future of the game. The designs bring a throwback sensibility, but many of the cards on the checklist bring current elements — including the return of Dare to Tear, the original rip cards.

2020 PANINI LEGACY FOOTBALL BASE SET BASICS

2020 Legacy Football features a 200-card base set. It breaks down into three sections, each with a different design and player focus. Veterans cover half the set. They’re joined by 60 rookies and 40 Legends. Legends also have Black versions, which are one-of-ones. Premium Edition cards come on chromium stock. Mini versions include Silver, Bronze (/100), Ruby (/75), Sapphire (/50), Gold (/25), Diamond (/10) and Platinum (1/1).

AUTOGRAPHS AND OTHER INSERTS

Rookies Premium Penmanship are chromium cards that use the same general design as the base set. In addition to the regular Silver versions, there are Bronze (/100 or less), Ruby (/50 or less), Sapphire (/35 or less), Gold (/25 or less), Diamond (/10 or less) and Platinum (1/1) parallels. Futures Patch Autographs (/399 or less) and Futures Dual Patch Autographs (/299 or less) bring a memorabilia element to the product. Both have Ruby (/100 or less), Sapphire (/25 or less), Gold (/10), Diamond (/5) and Platinum (1/1) parallels. Futures Ink Combos (/100 or less) pair up players from the 2020 draft. These have five levels of parallels. 2020 Panini Legacy Football has a couple of additional insert sets, Under the Lights and the photography-driven Fan Favorites. Each of these have a handful of parallels. For Under the Lights, this includes autographs as well.

DARE TO TEAR RIP CARDS

Dare to Tear cards made their debut in the late 1990s with the Pinnacle Zenith brand. They were the original rip card that’s now most famous for Topps’ Allen & Ginter line. The idea behind it remains the same. Collectors like to keep their cards in top condition. Rip cards have another card inside. But to get at it, you have to essentially destroy the outer one. The temptation is that the card inside may or may not be better than keeping it in tact. So there’s a risk involved. But it’s also part of the appeal. 2020 Panini Legacy Rip cards have exclusive Premium Edition Emerald Minis.
