2019 ROOKIE CLASS

-

KYLER MURRAY, CARDINALS

Kyler Murray runs like a go-cart. The 2019 Offensive Rookie of the Year is a flashy offensive weapon who can put up big stats. He also has a knack for stepping up when it matters most. Similar to Mahomes, Murray checks the “flashy/ exciting” box, and suddenly has legit offensive weapons in receivers DeAndre Hopkins, Christian Kirk and future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald. Beating the 49ers (last year’s NFC champs) in Week 1 revived attention to Murray’s cards.

HOLD:

Murray’s card values have been rising fast. His 2019 Donruss Optic #152 RR RC went from around $10 up to $65 once the season began. The Cardinals could find themselves in the playoff if they can create some consistency. If Murray can top what he did during his rookie year, his cards could rise in value even more.

DANIEL JONES, GIANTS

Collectors are waiting to see if Daniel Jones can live up to his potential. He flashed some impressive talent last season after taking over for Eli Manning and finished with a decent 87.7 passer rating for a rookie. Losing Saquon Barkley for the year will hurt the offense and the hype around his cards. The Giants started the season 0-3 and likely will need a miracle to make the playoffs.

BUY:

Collectors are paying more attention and money to the deep 2020 rookie class. Now’s a good time to pick up Jones cards as they soften. A 2019 Panini Limited #142 JSY AU RC has a nice-size patch and on-card signature for about $75.

DWAYNE HASKINS, WASHINGTON

The jury is still out if Haskins can be a starting NFL quarterback. Washington is bolstering its defense, but the offense still needs a lot of work. He started just seven games last year and finished with a disappointing 76.1 passer rating. It’s slightly worse after three games this year. Still, he’s just 23 years old, so collectors might be willing to give him more time.

SELL:

Haskins’ cards are softening. He was a first-round pick and the third QB drafted in 2019, so his top cards started fairly high in value. But now might be the time to dump them if you think Haskins can’t cut it.

DREW LOCK, BRONCOS

The Broncos picked up Drew Lock in the second round last year, and handed over the reins to him toward the end of the season. He looked impressive, passing for more than 1,000 yards, fueling anticipation for a full 2020 season. But Lock suffered a shoulder injury in Week 2 that was expected to keep him out up to six weeks. Denver also lost receiver Courtland Sutton for the season. It creates a lot of uncertainty, but it might be a great time to pick up some Lock cards as he heals.

BUY:

Lock was one of the hottest commodities in the hobby during the off-season. His 2019 Prizm #301 RC was reaching $50-plus at the start of the season but has fallen back down to around $25-$30. His 2019 Panini Certified #214 JSY AU RC can be found for $70 or less.

GARDNER MINSHEW, JAGUARS

Minshew Mania was full force last year as the sixthround draft pick took over for the Jaguars. He totaled more than 3,200 yards and 21 touchdowns in 12 games. He went 6-6 but had a 91.2 passer rating. It has improved to 101.3 in the first three games of this season, but Jacksonville has a lot of room to improve. Minshew is a gunslinger QB who plays with a lot of heart. He’s fun to watch, but the Jaguars need to give him some weapons if he’s going to become one of the top quarterbacks in the league.

BUY:

Despite his popularity last year, Minshew’s cards are pretty easy to pick up. Even some of his top Rookie Cards stay under $200. He has plenty of autographed RCs for less than $100. His 2019 Limited #181 AU/199 RC is about $50.
