NEW TIDE IN MIAMI
FORMER ALABAMA QUARTERBACK TUA TAGOVAILOA WENT FROM CAREER THREATENING INJURY TO NFL STARTER IN LESS THAN A YEAR.
It was last November when Tua Tagovailoa was carted off the field just before hal ime. A dislocated and fractured hip not only ended his junior season at Alabama, it also threatened his football future.
Even though he was unable to work out for NFL teams, the Dolphins made him the fih overall dra pick, relying on his undeniably impressive college resume. Before the injury, Tagovailoa, who had already heroically won Alabama a national title as a freshman, was on pace to pass for more than 4,400 yards and more than 50 touchdowns. In fact, had he gotten as many chances as Joe Burrow did, he might have surpassed Burrow’s recordsetting season.
Other than A.J. McCarron, Tagovailoa is the first Alabama quarterback to start an NFL game in 28 years. He’s also the first Alabama quarterback to be dra ed within the first four rounds in more than four decades. at’s an impressive accomplishment considering the Tide’s dominance over the last 10-plus years.
Miami handed over the starting job to Tagovailoa in Week 8, slightly less than one year removed from his injury. In his first four starts, he tossed six touchdowns and no interceptions. He also went 3-1 as Miami held its second spot in the AFC East, just two games behind the Bills.
As more 2020 card products release, and with Burrow’s season-ending knee injury, Tagovailoa’s cards will be hot commodities.
