BEST SET DESIGN
WINNER: PRIZM COLOR BLAST
Color Blast debuted last year as a rare case hit in Panini Prizm. It was a massive success even though it doesn’t have a memorabilia swatch or autograph, just a clean design with an explosion of color behind the player image. It returned in three 2020 products: Prizm Draft Picks, Prizm and Obsidian. The Obsidian set was a twist because it used a black background instead of white. The two most valuable Color Blast cards from this year are the Prizm Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa—both topping out at nearly $10,000.
CLOSE SECOND: PANINI ONE
A limited product with one card per pack, Panini One cards came encased and sealed. The shadowbox-style design stood out as unique, creating depth with the background, player image and signature. Veteran signatures are on a level of acetate over the player image. Rookie patch autographs show the player popping off the team logo. Overall, the design is classy and catches the eye.
