2019-20 Upper Deck Buybacks

-

It’s been four years since Upper Deck offered a Buybacks release, and based on early word the 2019-20 reboot should prove to be worth the wait. As with that 2015-16 product, this year’s series features both autographed issues repurchased on the secondary market, as well as hard-signed versions of previously un-signed cards. Although details are sketchy, it’s known that this release will go heavy on previously issued Young Guns Rookie Cards. Each buyback will be offered in a sealed case, and each pack will include one buyback and one base card. Expect it to be a very limited release, though, going by the base set/parallels print runs, perhaps not as scarce as the 201516 product.

BASE CARDS/PARALLELS

With everyone’s focus likely locked on the autographed buybacks, the 50-card base set could low-key wind up being one of the toughest challenges of the season. Each single is serial numbered out of 199. To keep things interesting, there are three parallels to the Buybacks base set as well: Gold /50; Emerald /25; and Purple /1. In addition, there’s a base rookie redemption for the No. 1 draft pick (apparently some guy named Jack Hughes) that could become one of his most desirable singles.

AUTOGRAPHS

Although the checklist is under wraps (as of press time), we can expect Buybacks Hockey to offer autos from a wide variety of years and products and subsets, including

Young Guns, Day With the Cup, Program of Excellence and UD Canvas. All cards are hard-signed, except in those cases when a previously signed/re-purchased card featured a sticker autograph. Many of the previously signed cards will be from premium products like The Cup and Ultimate Collection, ensuring that they’ll deliver great value.
