PRODUCT PREVIEW: 2020-21 UPPER DECK TRILOGY
THE SKINNY Trilogy Hockey delivers the popular Rookie Premieres with three levels for each player. Look for two total hits and two rookies or rookie-centric inserts per hobby box. Compared to other recent UD offerings, this is definitely a YMMV product.
BASE/ROOKIES/PARALLELS
Trilogy offers a 50-card shell set of key stars, but the real hook is the three-tiered approach to rookies. Each RC can be found in common (/999), uncommon (/499) and rare (/299) versions. Triple Premieres cards feature three top prospects and a print run limited to just 99 copies. Parallels are built around autograph or memorabilia enhancements. For veterans, look for Red Jersey (1:30), Autographs (1:75), Blue Patch (/25 or less), and Autograph Patch (/25 or /5) versions. You can also find Purple parallels (1/1), some of which are autographed. Rookie collectors will have several options to pursue. Common Rookie Premieres RCs have Jerseys (/499) and Autographs (/399 or /249). Uncommon Rookie Premieres have Patches (/49) and Autographs (/199 or /99). Rare Rookie Premieres have Tags (/5) and Autographs (/49 or /25). Triple Premieres have Tags (1/1) and Autographs (/5).
AUTOGRAPHS/MEMORABILIA
Signature Pucks return with base versions dropping 1:27 packs. Also look for Team Logo (/21) and NHL Shield (/3) parallels. Rookie Signature Pucks (1:184) have Team Logo (/25) and Draft Logo/NHL Shield (/3) parallels. All-Star, Trophy Winner and HOF Inductee Signature Pucks are each 1:1,030 packs for base versions. These also have two levels of parallels: Team Logo (/8) or NHL Shield (/2). Autograph-specific inserts include Auto Focus (1:500), Auto Focus Rookies (1:1,000), Crystallized Signatures (1:180) and Scripted Hall of Fame Plaques (/25). These all feature oncard signatures and plexiglass stock. Honorary Triple Swatches offer, yep, three swatches from a single star, legend, or rookie. Print runs vary (/35, /25 or /10). Also look for Triple Relics (/35, /25, or /10).
INSERTS Rookie Renditions (1:2) has Red (/699) and Blue (/299) parallels. Jersey versions are 1:25 packs while Patches are /25. Gold Autographs are 1:30, Spectrum Autographs are /35. Also look for Autograph Patches (Tier 1: /49; or Tier 2: /25), Purple Autographs (1/1) and Purple Autograph Patches (1/1). Rookie Super Stage (1:3) is new for 2020-21. These also have Red (/999) and Blue (/499) versions, along with Jersey (/99), Gold Autograph (/65), Patch (/25), Auto Patch (/15), Spectrum Autograph (/10), and Purple Auto Patch (1/1) parallels.
