2001-02 Russian Moscow Dynamo #15
At 16, Ovechkin was an unstoppable force in Russia’s junior circuit, scoring 18 goals and 26 points in 19 games and leaving a trail of bruised and battered teenagers in his wake. His success caught the attention of his parent club and earned him a promotion to play against men in the Russian Superleague. Though his numbers weren’t eye-catching – two goals and four points in 22 games – his potential was obvious. Fortunately for collectors, Dynamo was in the habit of releasing an annual team set. Little did they know how important this single would become.
