LOW-POP GEMS

- BYJOHNEAVES

IT’S NOT JUST THE FINAL GRADE THAT MATTERS TO THOSE HOBBYISTS WHO PREFER THEIR CARDS SLABBED. THE POPULATION NUMBER IS EQUALLY CRITICAL. THE FEWER COPIES THAT EXIST IN TOP CONDITION, GEM MINT OR BETTER, THE MORE REWARDING IT IS TO ADD THE CARD TO A COLLECTION.

With that in mind, we took a look at some premium RCs that might be getting overlooked despite extremely limited populations. All are superstar players who are either headed for the Hockey Hall of Fame or are at least in the discussion. None of these cards have a population of more than 50 Gem Mint copies combined between PSA and BGS. (Just for fun, we include the stats for BGS 10 Pristine copies.)

A couple of these cards are so tough to track down that we don’t have images of them in a Gem Mint (or better) slab, so you’ll just have to imagine how amazing they look encased.

NOTE: ALL POP REPORT NUMBERS ARE ACCURATE AS OF JAN. 18, 2022
