2021 22 UPPER DECK CLEAR CUT

-

WHAT IS IT?:

Clear Cut is a swing-forthe-fences offering geared towards deep-pocketed collectors with a high risk tolerance. Each box contains one card, but it’ll be a beauty, with almost every card boasting an autograph and the classic acetate stock.

THE BASICS:

e base set design mirrors the look of the company’s 2021-22 flagship brand. Rookies are the most common pull, landing 1:5 packs. Veterans (1:7) and Legends (Tier 1 – 1:29, Tier 2 – 1:65) are also part of the checklist. Parallels also reprise the flagship. Exclusives come in three tiers of rarity, numbered to 65, 35, or 15. High Gloss (/10) and One-of-Ones will rank among the biggest pulls.

Canvas gets the Clear Cut treatment as well. Canvas Signatures cards have 25 copies. Red Ink parallels are numbered to the players’ jersey number, while Gold Ink are one-of-ones.

Canvas Rookie Debuts are the only cards on the checklist not to have an autograph. However, they land as bonus cards in packs that come with an autograph redemption – a savvy decision by UD.

Each of these has autographed parallels including Red (/10) and Gold (1/1).

CHASE HIGHLIGHTS:

ere are too many to mention here, but we like to see the return of Ionix, based on the 1999-2000 brand. is set includes veterans (1:60), rookies (1:50), and legends (1:240). All have

Gold 1/1 parallels. Champs is back with veterans (1:16), rookies (1:16), and legends (1:80). Parallels include Green (/25) and Red (1/1). 1991-92 Retros (1:200) and Retro Rookies Autos (1:60 packs) recreate past cards with acetate.

OTHER INSERTS:

Clear Cut Winners are back, with rookies dropping 1:36 and vets falling at either 1:60 or 1:240. Black and Amber Autographs return with a fresh design. Veterans are 1:40 packs while rookies are 1:25. Vintage Views get a die-cut design harkening back to SPx’s hologram era. Look for veterans (1:60), rookies (1:50) and legends (1:240), along with Gold 1/1 parallels.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?:

ere are going to be some amazing cards pulled from Clear Cut, but some collectors might be better served picking off singles and letting others assume the risk of the break.
