2022 23 SPx
WHAT IS IT?:
SPx returns with a familiar formula that relies heavily on unique printing substrates to deliver some of the hobby’s most visually compelling cards. Each hobby “box” is a single, fivecard pack, with one guaranteed autograph.
THE BASICS:
All 200 base cards, which are split evenly between rookies and veterans, are serial-numbered to
299. Each card also has four levels of parallels: Colored Holofoil /149, Radiance /100, Grand Finale /50, and NHL Shield Hologram /25.
Select base cards also have Autographs (1:8, Rookies 1:10),
Auto Patches, and one-of-one Auto Premium Memorabilia versions. Veterans also have Jersey cards (1:25).
CHASE HIGHLIGHTS:
New this year are HoloGraphs and Rookie HoloGraphs.
All of these are serial numbered and have Red, Gold, and Blue (1/1) parallels. Other standalone autograph sets include Superscripts (1:12), Rookie Superscripts (1:10), White Out Autographs (/25), and White Out Rookie Autographs (1:20), all of which have Gold versions.
SPx Retro goes back two decades for its design (base /199, Gold Spectrum /99). Autograph parallels include Lunar Waves (1:25, Rookies 1:15), and Gold Whirlpool (1/1).
SPx Force inserts return, showcasing multiple players (1:100). Parallels include Red Holo (/30), Gold Holo (/15), and Blue Holo (1/1).
Also new are HoloChampions (/299). ese have a Red Holo (/65), Gold Holo (/35), and
Blue Holo (1/1) rainbow. Some cards also get autographs that have Red Holo (/10), Gold Holo (/5), and Blue Holo (1/1) parallels.
NHL freshmen get the spotlight in Finite Rookies (/999). Gold (/499), Green (/199), Platinum (/99), Silver Spectrum (/49), Gold Spectrum (/25), Green Spectrum (/10), and Platinum Spectrum (1/1) are the parallels.
e UD Black brand returns, starting with Obsidian Rookies (/499) and their Gold (/99), and Purple (/25) parallels. Hits-based versions take the form of Jerseys (/499), Gold Patch (/35), and Purple Patch (1/1). Veteran players have Obsidian Jerseys (/399) as well.
Lustrous Rookie Signatures take a tiered approach with cards having 299, 199, or 99 copies. Gold (/25) and Green (1/1) parallels are available as are Auto Patch (/125 or /75) and Clarity Variants (/15). Pride of a Nation Auto Patch (/99 or /25) combine the player’s signature with a manufactured patch of their country’s flag. Spectrum parallels are one-of-ones.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?:
SPx is a product for the brave and the bold. You’re definitely taking your chances, but the outcomes can be quite rewarding. If it exceeds your personal risk tolerance, keep an eye out for singles on the secondary market. You’ll know ‘em when you see ‘em.
