THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE

Belleville News-Democrat (Sunday) - - Front Page -

Frequent letter writer Gary Like chooses to get into a name-calling contest with anyone who offers up a differing opinion than himself. I choose not to do so. As former first lady Michelle Obama expressed, “They go low and we go high.” In my opinion, Like is a guy who is passionate about politics and wants our metro area to know how he feels, and he has that right through our current Freedom of Speech guaranteed in our Constitution (although I believe Donald Trump would want to take that freedom away along with many other freedoms we currently enjoy). I was raised to know right from wrong, to be a productive member of society and to give back to the community in which I live. Like, in my opinion, by his many hateful and divisive letters expressing his political rhetoric is an extreme-right conservative. Not name calling here, just expressing the obvious. While politics affect us all, politics certainly are not the most important part of my life. I value family, health and friends much more and am a glasshalf-full type of guy with the hope for all of us and our country that we will all experience a brighter future. I wish all a very happy holiday season.
