One flown to hos­pi­tal af­ter car vs. semi ac­ci­dent on I-57

Traf­fic on north­bound In­ter­state 57 in South­ern Illi­nois slowed Wed­nes­day night as mul­ti­ple agen­cies tended to a car ver­sus trac­tor-trailer crash.

Around 5 p.m., the driver of a trac­tor-trailer was stopped in traf­fic to en­ter a weigh sta­tion on I-57 near Mar­ion, a news re­lease from Illi­nois State Po­lice District 13 stated. The driver of a Chevro­let Silverado be­hind the truck failed to make a stop and rear-ended the semi.

The 26-year-old driver of the Chevro­let Silverado, David Keith, of Bel­ton, Ken­tucky, was flown to Dea­coness Hos­pi­tal in In­di­ana with in­ca­pac­i­tat­ing in­juries, the re­lease stated. The driver of the Freight­liner, 41year-old Louis Fon­tanez of Lex­ing­ton, Ne­braska, did not suf­fer se­vere in­juries. Both driv­ers were wear­ing their seat­belts.

Lake of Egypt and Mar­ion fire de­part­ments re­sponded to the ac­ci­dent. Charges are pend­ing an in­ves­ti­ga­tion by Illi­nois State Po­lice., the re­lease said.
