The fifth-ranked Sooners will face No. 14 Texas in the Big 12 championship game in Norman at 11 a.m. Saturday. It’s the first time the Red River Showdown rivals have had an in-season rematch in 115 years. Texas handed Oklahoma its only loss of the season, 48-45, on Oct. 6. The rematch will be televised on ABC.
Seibert is the first Oklahoma player to earn the special teams player of the year honors. The recognition could be the first for Seibert who is one of the only combination (punterplacekickers) in the nation.
Seibert currently leads the Big 12 in scoring with 115 points and has converted on 12 of his 14 field goal attempts, with his longest of the season, a 42-yard effort, coming in a 37-27 win at Iowa State. Seibert also has recorded 80 touchbacks on 96 kickoffs this season.
In the punting game, Seibert is currently averaging 41.1 yards per attempt
