Elmer “Ed” Dean Sauerwein April 20, 1932 - May 19, 2024

Belleville, Illinois Elmer “Ed” Dean Sauerwein, 92, of Belleville, IL, born Wednesday, April 20, 1932, in Marissa, IL, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024 at his residence in Belleville, IL.

Ed worked as a Radiology Administer for Memorial Hospital for 25 years and worked at Picker X-Ray Corporation where he sold x-ray machines for 15 years. He was a member of St. Matthew Church in Belleville, ARPT (Registry of Radiologic Technologists), AM Society of Technology, and the Nuclear Medicine Technology Registry. He was a proud United States Navy Veteran who served during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Sauerwein; mother, Louise Sauerwein; brothers, Basil Sauerwein, Robert Sauerwein, Richard Sauerwein; son-inlaw Rick Hays.

Surviving are his wife, Joann Sauerwein of Belleville, IL; children, Janis Hays of Salem, IL, Steven (Carol) Sauerwein of Belleville, IL, Bill (Carla) Sauerwein of St. Louis, MO, Mark (Linda) Sauerwein of Belleville, IL; brother, David (Connie) Sauerwein of Columbia, IL; grandchildren, Dane Hays, Megan Hays, Amy (Chris) Egan, Matthew (Alli) Sauerwein, Joe Sauerwein, Ben (Taylor) Sauerwein, Ryan Sauerwein, Leah Sauerwein, Alexis (Alex) Hughes, Ana (Dane) Haugen; great-grandchildren, Sylvey Helm, Elliot Sauerwein, Olivia Egan, Jane Egan, Callan Sauerwein, and Eloise Sauerwein.

Funeral: Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Kurrus Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Swickard officiating. Interment will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL. at
